Uncheck the 'Check for Updates' and 'Run text Advertisements' check boxes that are located in the options window.

These are easily missed andd may result in the application becoming unregistered if the program updates automatically

This feature only checks update, it does not automatically upgrade.

ref. to "Check for Updates":
The programme is not developed for GOTD, the GOTD users should care for their own system, and learn what to do with the programmes they get for free.
The developer is not the nanny for the GOTD users.

Advertisements should never be in a full programme!
How can the GOTD users test the programme when they get crippled software with advertisements?

It's not really ads by itself. It's a public service ad, linking to Red Cross international. And if you don't want to see it, a simple click at the Options dialog will dismiss it forever.
